What if we say, “You can do something extraordinary”?
We’re talking about the opportunity you have to make a planned gift. Unlike a cash gift, a planned gift is typically made from your assets in your estate rather than disposable income, and comes to fruition after your lifetime.
Planned Giving With Habitat For Humanity
Planned giving is a form of major gifts, made during a lifetime or at death as part of a donor’s overall financial and/or estate planning. Many people think of a will as the easiest way to transfer assets after their lifetime, but it doesn’t cover everything. Retirement plans, IRAs, life insurance and insurance annuities are not controlled by the terms of your will, but instead use separate beneficiary forms to determine who receives them. These beneficiary designations override your will when it comes to passing along these assets at your death, making them effective and easy ways to leave a legacy.

Beneficiary Designation
A retirement plan or IRA will be the largest source of assets that generate taxable income when paid to the beneficiary. Therefore, if you are considering a gift to a charity after a lifetime, it is usually better to leave nontaxable assets (such as stocks and real estate) to your loved ones and the taxable assets from a retirement account or IRA to a tax-exempt charitable organization such as Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity.
Gift Intent
It can often be difficult to plan and make sure that your gifts are used in line with your wishes if they are left unknown. But more importantly, we want to say thank you for considering our work as a part of your legacy.

Cash Bequest Will or Trust Language
I give, devise, and bequeath to Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity, Inc., a non-profit corporation located at 415 8th Ave NE, Brainerd, Minnesota, the sum of $___________ as an unrestricted gift.
Remaining Interest Will or Trust Bequest Language
I give, devise, and bequeath to Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity, Inc., a non-profit corporation located at 415 8th Ave NE, Brainerd, Minnesota, the rest, residue and remainder of my estate after all debts, expenses and taxes have been paid and all the general and specific bequests have been made, as an unrestricted gift.
