Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity Receives Malachi 3:10 Award
by: Kevin Pelkey
The Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity and ReStore has been awarded the Malachi 3:10 Award from Habitat for Humanity International.
This award recognizes a $500,000 lifetime tithe milestone. Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity and ReStore has, through its tithe, supported Habitat International’s Global Mission Fund which enables the gifts to be used where they are needed most around the world. The tithe represents helping families worldwide obtain decent homes, as well as community projects for safe infrastructure and water.
Specifically, Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity supports Habitat Haiti and Habitat Guatamala and Habitat’s vision: A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
The award will be celebrated during a virtual celebration with other Habitat for Humanity affiliates on Friday, February 26. “We work hard to ensure than not only are we making an impact locally, but globally, as well,” said Executive Director, Kevin Pelkey. “From smokeless indoor stoves and latrines, to street lights, out tithe dollars support projects that may seem small, but make an incredible difference in the day-to-day lives of families in Haiti and Guatamala.”
This coveted award is named after a verse in the Bible, Malachi 3:10: “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that it may be food in my house. Test me in this and see if I do not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”
