What are you thankful for?
by: Kevin Pelkey
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday and I think of all the things I am grateful for, I am reminded of how truly, richley blessed I am.
I am blessed to work for an organization that allows me to live out my values, my ethics, my grounding in social justice.
I am blessed to serve the Board of Directors, a collection of caring people who want to make the Lakes Area a better place for everyone to live.
I am blessed to be surrounded by a dedicated, committed and supportive staff.
I am blessed to be entrusted with so many gifts: time, talent and treasure by so many donors. A humbling responsibility but one I take with joy.
I am blessed to meet families struggling to “make it” who find a path to a different future through Habitat; whose lives have made me into a better person.
We all at LAHFH are blessed with the opportunities presented with our space in the East Brainerd Mall. We are grateful to have enough room to have clean, shoppable aisles for ALL people – it’s wonderful to see people in wheelchairs independently shop our store! We are grateful to the incredible generosity of our communities to fill up or space with so much great product. We are thankful for all our shoppers supporting our mission with every purchase. We are grateful to everyone who helped vote us as the Lakes Area #1 Home Furnishing store!
As you reflect on your blessings, I urge you to share your blessings with others. As so many volunteers and donors tell me, the “Return On Investment” far exceeds the contribution. Join us with your time, talent and treasures to ensure more families can celebrate the Holidays at home…a Habitat built home that is safe, decent and affordable. By giving of your time and treasure, you are living out one my favorite George Eliot quotes: “What do we live for if it is not to make life less difficult for each other.”
